In the cave’s main nave, yards over our heads,
Two melt holes hold sunshot ravens,
And we two are the last snapped off neurons
In the Fenris Wolf’s great skull,
Cratered by the corn and callous shod foot of Vidar
At Ragnarok, left where he fell and carved
This sharp ice raftered crack, rock and Fimbul
Snow hollowed and hardened by a fallen dog’s heat,
Belly up, hind paws splayed uphill, unmuzzled grey
Tongue lolled from sundered jaws in the sea,
Warped and fractured tail snaking
Back through the cave’s black rooms.
